Campbell Brown says women in the general public eye face a double-standard in terms of appearance.
(CNN) -- There's been lots of sniping and plenty of tales Wednesday about Gov. Sarah Palin's clothes.
Politico.com reports that the Republican National Committee spent more than $150,000 on clothes, hair and make-up for Palin on the marketing campaign path. Now, these are usually not your tax dollars.
That is money given by Republican donors to the RNC. But ferragamo shoes womens whether it's legal to make use of campaign cash for quote "private use."
My subject? There is an unbelievable double-normal here, and we are ignoring a very simple actuality.
Girls are judged primarily based on their appearance far, way over men. That's a press release of fact.
There has been loads of discuss and lots written about Sarah Palin's jackets, her hair and her appears. Sound familiar? Watch Campbell Brown 'Chopping Through the Bull' »
There was loads of discuss and loads written about Sen. Hillary Clinton's seems to be, hair and pantsuits.
Compare that with the eye given to Sen. Barack Obama's $1,500 suits or Sen. John McCain's $520 Ferragamo shoes. There isn't any comparison.
Ladies get scrutinized based on appearance way over males. And look, I converse from expertise right here. When i put on a bad outfit on the air, I get viewer e-mail complaining about it. A lot of e-mail. Severely.
When ferragamo shoes mens wears a not-so-great tie, how a lot e-mail do you assume he will get? My level is for ladies, unfortunately, look is part of the job.
If Wolf or Anderson Cooper exhibits up on the air with out makeup, you assume you'll even discover? I present up without make-up? Belief me, you will discover.
This would not just apply to Television. All women in the general public eye deal with this difficulty. And it is for this reason that I think the RNC should help Palin pay for clothes, hair and makeup. It's part of the job.

Or chances are you'll complain, as some have, that it's hypocritical to sell your self as a "small-town hockey mother" when you're wearing designer clothes. That is superb, simply do not ignore the actual fact that there is a double-standard here. iReport.com: Palin 'doesn't gown like several hockey mothers I know'
And personally I believe on this marketing campaign, with so much at stake, this can be a peripheral problem.
I, myself, have raised loads of questions about Sarah Palin, much to the annoyance of the McCain campaign. However those questions have been about her skills and expertise, by no means her appearance.
